Some causes of menopause symptoms need medical care, not self-treatment. Seek help for any of these:
- Bleeding after menopause must always be medically evaluated.
What may help
Remedies studied for menopause symptoms, ranked by strength of evidence.
- B Soy isoflavones supplement
Reduce hot flash frequency (~21%) and severity (~26%) versus placebo across RCTs, with a dose-response for higher-genistein products; effect is smaller than hormone therapy.
- C Red clover herb
One meta-analysis found ~1.7 fewer hot flushes/day (strongest at higher doses), but another found the effect non-significant — so the benefit is small and inconsistent.
- D Black cohosh herb
The Cochrane review found no significant difference from placebo in hot flush frequency or menopausal symptom scores, and judged the evidence insufficient.
