Soy isoflavones
Also: genistein, daidzein, soy phytoestrogens
Soy-derived phytoestrogens that modestly reduce menopausal hot flashes.
Evidence by condition
Each grade reflects the research for Soy isoflavones and that condition specifically.
- BMenopause symptoms
Reduce hot flash frequency (~21%) and severity (~26%) versus placebo across RCTs, with a dose-response for higher-genistein products; effect is smaller than hormone therapy.

Soy isoflavones are weak phytoestrogens that modestly ease hot flashes, more so at higher genistein doses. Evidence does not show increased breast-cancer risk in healthy women, but individualized advice is still common for those with hormone-sensitive cancer.
